The Rider – 01

Also known as The Horseman or Cavalier

Keywords: News, messages, what approaches, what is leaving, a horse, a sporty person, sports.

General Rider Meaning

In Lenormand, the Rider is the card of a messenger. The Rider will appear when the news is being brought to you or someone close to you (in most cases). In a reading, the emphasis may be on the actual news or nature of the messenger. For example, Dog and Rider could predict news about a friend, or news from a friend.

It is possible for the Rider card to represent a real messenger, such as a postman. However, when it appears as a person, the Rider card traditionally symbolizes a young man.

Like the Knights in Tarot readings, the Rider can be symbolic of what is entering or leaving your life. Because Rider is a neutral card, whether what is entering/leaving could be positive or negative depending on context and the rest of the reading.

In the literal sense, Rider represents horses, and also, horse riding, sports, and sporty people. Sometimes this card can signal sports, competition, and competitiveness so keep that in mind when you are putting together your interpretation.

Less frequently (although possible) the Rider card speaks of an act. For example, when combined with Scythe it will indicate a terrible act; with Heart, a loving act, and so on.

A final meaning for the Lenormand Rider is that it is the card of a winner. If you’re curious whether or not you’re a forerunner for a competition, The Rider plus a positive Lenormand card together (Clover, Sun) is always a welcomed omen.

The Rider from Pixie’s Astounding Oracle Lenormand deck and the Knights are from the Rider Waite Smith Tarot deck, Centennial edition which you can check out here.

Specific Rider Meanings

Rider Love Meaning: In a love reading, The Rider can represent a new lover, a sporty boyfriend/girlfriend or news for someone you’re in a relationship with (or will be in the future). In some Lenormand card readings, the Rider may represent an admirer especially when you combine it with the Heart or Man cards.

Rider Career Meaning: In a career reading, Rider can symbolize work with horses or a job in the sporting fields. In general, it will mean you will hear news about a piece of job news at work. Sometimes, Rider can indicate some friendly competition.

Rider Business Meaning: In a business reading, Rider can mean that you will be made aware of opportunities. Alternatively, you will receive news about your company; for example, if Rider is combined with Moon, you could overhear information about your company’s reputation.

Rider Positive: Meaning In a pleasant reading, The Rider speaks of good news, opportunities, new people who are a significant influence in your life. Less frequently, Rider represents friendly competition.

Rider Negative Meaning: In a negative reading, The Rider represents bad news, lost opportunities, people who are a bad influence (especially younger individuals) and friends, lovers, etc. leaving your life.

Rider as a Person: The Rider card is typically a young man who is athletic or has an interest in sports. Sometimes, the occupation of a rider will be that of a postal worker, horse rider, horse groomer, or professional sportsperson.

Rider Timing Meaning: Rider is associated with things which happen very soon – if you’re waiting on someone, they are on their way! Sometimes, Rider can predict that events will play out in one week, one month, one year, or on the 1st of the month.
